What's On Your Face?
was walking the dog down by the lake. It was a cold, wet, miserable day and I wanted to be doing almost anything else.
While the dog tended to business, I looked down at the lake and saw an angry man glaring back at me. His clenched jaw and furrowed brow said, "Stand clear. I'm miserable and I don't want anything to do with you." The reflection of the dark clouds overhead combined with my reflection to paint a dismal portrait. It was a rude reality check.
Our faces often reveal what's going on inside. We can sense a fake smile; we can see anger, hurt and bitterness in someone's eyes. We can see when people are hurting or when they're filled with joy.
When we've been in the presence of God, our faces glow. Moses knew it well from personal experience. We, too, can have that glow. Unlike Moses, we needn't worry about veiling our faces afterwards.
We are "not like Moses, who would put a veil over his face to keep the Israelites from gazing at it while the radiance was fading away "but whenever anyone turns to the Lord, the veil is taken away. Now the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom. And we, who with unveiled faces all reflect the Lord's glory, are being transformed into his likeness with ever-increasing glory, which comes from the Lord, who is the Spirit."
- 2 Corinthians 3:13,16-18 NIV
Take a long hard look in the mirror. Does your face show the love of Christ and the joy He brings or do you look like a pickle faced, sour old Christian?
Until next time, may your face reveal the Lord you love.
